With a view to taking various technologies for feed value addition to farmers, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) calls for setting up of a Feed Regulatory Authority.

"Different technologies already available for adding value to feed need to be adopted by the dairy industry and the same should be disseminated on a much wider scale. It is time now for the government to seriously consider the setting up of a Feed Regulatory Authority", NDDB Chairman Amrita Patel said at the 37th Dairy Industry Conference held in Goa.

She further suggested that plants manufacturing feeds, mineral mixtures and feed supplements should be registered and it should be made mandatory to disclose certain essential information on the lable of every pack of seed marketed in the market.

Emphasising the need to ensure balancing of interests of both milk producers and consumers, she said, "Milk production in India is higher competitive. NDDB's proposed National Dairy Plan aims at meeting the demand for milk by 2021-22, which has been projected 180 metric tonnes (MT). This implies 4 per cent growth annually during the period but in absolute terms the incremental production is 2.5 MMT per annum, which will have to be 5 MMT".
