To promote tourism infrastructure in the region, the North Eastern Council (NEC), the apex body for development of North-East, has undertaken an initiative in collaboration with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) to rope in private investors to set up hotels.
NEC has identified at least 13 sites across the region where it plans to facilitate the setting up of luxury as well as budget hotels by private players.
NEC has formed a joint corpus of Rs. 4 crore with IL&FS to supplement the initiative and also is ready to bear a part of the total cost required in setting up the hotels.
"We have tourism potential but that's not going to make any difference until we have right infrastructure in place. That is why we have taken the initiative to identify potential sites and then with the help of IL&FS we will try to rope in private players to set up hotels," said Falguni Rajkumar, secretary of NEC.
IL&FS has been entrusted to interface with private players, prepare detailed project reports (DPRs), and invite bids.
Till date, NEC has been able to rope in 3 investments, viz.; two Ginger hotels
