Nepal would develop industrial estates on the lines of Uttarakhand, its prime minister, Baburam Bhattarai, said on Sunday.

Accompanied by his eight cabinet ministers, Bhattarai, visited Haridwar’s industrial estate to see the functioning and management of two key manufacturing units.

“We would like to emulate the Uttarakhand model in Nepal,” Bhattarai said after visiting Haridwar, the hub of manufacturing units like Hero Motorcorps, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL)and ITC.

“The main purpose of the his visit was to study industrial models here and incorporate them in his country,” said Uttarakhand Industries Secretary Rakesh Sharma, who accompanied Bhattarai. Bhattarai also visited an industrial estate at Haridwar, developed by the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited.

Sharma also gave a presentation highlighting the growth of industries during the past few years owing to the central industrial package of 2003 comprising a series of tax incentives.

Bhattarai visited factories of HUL and Hero Montorcorp and appreciated the robust growth shown by the Indian companies. In the Hero Motorcorp factory which is being considered as the world’s biggest two wheelers unit, Bhattarai expressed happiness over the company producing one unit on every seven-eight seconds.

Later, Bhattarai visited the factory of HUL to see the manufacturing work of the plant. He also showed keen interest in the 1695 acre Haridwar industrial estate which is considered to be one of the best in the world.
