The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is working on the new guidelines for pricing of second-generation (2G) spectrum and expects to send these to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) by the end of this month.

“Yes, we are working towards it… we will give our study in the next few days,” Trai Chairman J S Sarma said.

In May, Trai had recommended telecom service providers pay for 2G spectrum in excess of 6.2 MHz at a price linked with that discovered in the recent 3G spectrum auction.

Most GSM operators had opposed the move and refused to pay any one-time charge. Subsequently, Trai had said it would prepare new guidelines for linking the price of 2G spectrum with 3G.

Trai will also come up with a set of regulations to curb unsolicited commercial calls by the end of this month.
