Welcoming the new BJP-led government in Assam, the industry feels the new government in Dispur would be industry friendly and ensure ease of doing businesses. It feels, given the state has resources with it, proper policies could help Assam develop industrially.
“I am absolutely confident that Assam under the new government will be stronger, futuristic and industry-friendly. The mandate reflects people’s aspirations for better governance and faster development. It also reaffirms faith in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda and economic growth plans,” said Sandipan Chakravortty, chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) North East Council.
“BJP’s victory in Assam opens a new political chapter in the Northeastern states, which are expected to be asking for more of development to meet rising aspirations of their people,” said Sunil Kanoria, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (Assocham) president.
Jahnabi Phukan, vice chairperson of CII’s Assam State Council is of the opinion that the new government must encourage large scale investments from the private sector in the entire agriculture value chain. According to her, that could be done through promotion of balanced and integrated use of fertiliser, farm mechanisation, better input management and post-harvest technologies.
Ranjit Barthakur, chairman of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) North East Advisory Council said: “We had proposed a number of steps to revitalise the economy and ensure inclusive development in the state before the elections. We hope the new government will take up these initiatives.” He added that the mandate was decisive and would help Assam remain connected with the central government and give a boost to development
“Assam has all the required resources and economic advantages for being an industrially vibrant state, and sectors like oil and gas, hydrocarbons, agro and food processing, bamboo, tea, tourism among many others, can play a mammoth role in attracting employment-generating investments in the near future, if an enabling policy environment can be created,” said Rajeev Singh, director general of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
“Ease of doing business, industrial development policies, infrastructure creation, and key sectors of the economy must be strongly developed by the new government,” said Abhijit Barooah, co-chairman of CII’s North East Council.
