Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy announced seven major projects for Kochi at the mass public contact programme held here today.
The projects include a centralised sewerage treatment plant for waste disposal, setting up a Regional Cancer Centre, city gas projects that provide cooking gas to household through pipelines, floating markets by cleaning up canals, logistics park for easy handling of cargo, rural BPO for giving IT training to students from villages and resolving problems associated with title deeds.
The chief minister informed that Rs 5 crore had been sanctioned for preparing a detailed project report for the centralised sewage treatment plant. Tender is being called for finding a partner for setting up the cancer centre at Kalamaseryon annuity model. Distribution of cooking gas through pipes to homes would be first implemented in Kochi.

The proposed floating markets would be set up by clearing the waste accumulated in the canals of Ernakulam district. Markets will be set up in places like Kochi Marine Drive. Logistics Park is designed to ease the traffic in the container road, and also provide resting place for workers besides a parking space for lorries. Walkway would be constructed near container road and beautification works would also be done as part of the project.
The rural BPO project aims to provide insights in the field of IT for students from villages. The departments of revenue and forest would work jointly for resolving issues related with the distribution of title deeds, the chief minister added.
