Providing an alternative choice of higher education to students of North-East, who presently prefer to migrate to other parts of the country to pursue higher education due to dearth of professional colleges in the region, Guwahati based education trust, Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF), has come up with a state-of-the art engineering college in North-East. Addressing a press conference, Mahbubul Hoque, chairman of ERDF said that the engineering college, which has been christened as Regional Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) and is located in Ri Bhoi district in Meghalaya, will start functioning from July this year.
RIST will offer B. Tech courses in computer science and engineering, information technology, electronics and communication engineering. Hoque feels that RIST will be able to stop the flight of students from the region to other parts of the country. Presently, students mostly travel to other parts of the country to pursue higher education due to dearth of colleges of higher learning in North-East.
