In an effort to develop Kolkata into an economic destination, the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government is going to come up with a financial hub through the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) at Rajarhat in the outskirts of the city.
The first phase of the project is set to come up at 25 acres at New Town near Rajarhat will see an investment of about Rs 250 crore. “This will be a 100 per cent state project to be implemented through Hidco. The total investment for the project will be around Rs 250 crore,” said Debashis Sen, chairman, Hidco.
When asked whether this is the part of a Rs 16,000 crore financial hub project at Rajarhat planned by the earlier Left Front government and the Centre in a joint venture model, he said, “This is in a separate location and a different project too, which is complementary to the planned one. We are going to start this project with in this financial year. We are in talks with the State Bank of India for allotment of a plot,” he said.
