The Union Cabinet, which met on Monday, has set up a group of ministers to decide the fate of the ailing Durgapur-based Alloy Steel Plant (ASP) of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). Government sources said the Cabinet might re-appoint Dastur & Co to prepare a fresh viability report on the plant.
Government sources said the group of ministers would take a final decision on the plant only after studying the report.
The government might even decide to close the plant in the near future.
