Any decision on creating new states should be taken only after a proper socio-economic and geo-political survey, Congress general secretary and incharge of party affairs in Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh today said.

Congress has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up the second state reorganisation commission for the various demands of statehood emanating from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and other states, Singh told reporters here.

The Congress general secretary stressed that no decision on creation of new states should be taken without a proper socio-economic and geo-political survey.

On the problems over statehood to Telangana, Singh said that a decision on it can be taken by the Centre only after a proposal for the same is passed by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Besides Singh, UPCC President Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Congress MP Jagdambika Pal were also present on the occasion.
