The country’s largest manufacturer of passenger vehicles, Maruti Suzuki, will launch a new variant of its compact car, the Zen Estilo, next week. “The upgraded Estilo will feature a new engine which will be Bharat Stage 4 emission norms compliant,” said I V Rao, managing executive officer (engineering).
However, Rao refused to confirm if the new Estilo would sport Maruti’s next generation KB series engine, which are kitted in the A-Star and Ritz compact models.
Industry executives say amongst Maruti Suzuki’s stable of older compact cars like the Maruti 800, Alto, Wagon R and Zen Estilo, only the Alto and the Wagon R have been consistently generating volumes for the company.
The other brands have posted declining sales volumes. Currently, the Zen Estilo sells around 2,000 units a month. Industry sources say the new Estilo variant that will be unveiled soon, apart from a new engine, will primarily sport a new front grill design, while retaining its other design characteristics.
