New Zealand today offered its expertise to India in areas such as infrastructure, horticulture and cold storage and laid emphasis on boosting bilateral trade relations between the nations.
"There are various areas where we can provide expertise to India. New Zealand is a pioneer in cold storage, transportation, horticulture and dairy products," New Zealand Trade Commissioner to New Delhi Cliff Fuller said on the sidelines the New Zealand Education Fair held here today.
He said that Indian industry is growing and there is a need for supply of resources, technology and equipment. There is a scope for increasing exports of items like coal, wood, wool, and metals from New Zealand to India.
The bilateral trade between India and New Zealand was $494.83 million in 2007-08.
Major items India exports to New Zealand are gems and jewellery, medicines, textiles, iron ore and steel products and tyres, while items exported from New Zealand are coal, wool, wood and metal waste/scrap.
On the infrastructure development in India, Fuller said, "India is developing infrastructure to support its economy and we have the expertise and technology in these niche areas."
