A city-based NGO is looking at transforming a number of villages in Karnataka into “economically sustainable and ecologically viable” models.

“As part of our model village development programme, we want to transform a number of villages in the state by making them economically sustainable and ecologically viable on the lines of Ramthirtha village in Belgaum district which we have already adopted as a pilot project,” Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, wife of BJP General Secretary H N Ananth Kumar, MP, and Chairperson, Adamya Chetana Trust, told reporters here.

“Of the 125 households in Ramthirtha village, Forty have been provided gobar gas plants and pucca toilets besides construction of check dams to prevent soil erosion and conservation of ground water”, she said.

The NGO would be organising a number of competitions for schoolchildren on the said themes during the workshop.
