The Centre is likely to re-introduce the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Bill in Parliament in its original form after finance minister Jaswant Singh is briefed about its salient features next week.
The Bill has been in cold storage after a standing committee on finance recommended major changes including doing away with all numerical limits on government borrowings and on yearly targets for reduction in fiscal and revenue deficits.
Last month, the ministry had referred the draft Bill to the law ministry for its comments. However, government sources said the latter did not recommended any major changes to the content.
The finance ministry, though, has not approached the ministry of parliamentary affairs to list the Bill for this session so far. Sources in North Block believe that while it will be difficult for the Congress to oppose the Bill on the floor because it will raise questions on the party
