No impact of recession on gold business: Gold Association

Global recession has not impacted the manufacturing and sale of gold ornaments in Kerala, an industry person said today.     

Gold business in the state has not been affected by recession and about 500 kg of gold was being used daily for making gold ornaments, Kerala Jewellery Manufacturers Association's chief Patron P V Jose told reporters today.     

There were about 3,000 gold ornaments manufacturing units in the Thrissur district, providing gainful employment to over 4,000 artisans and others.     

About 90 tonnes of gold was being used annually in Kerala for manufacturing of ornaments.     

A seminar on the problems faced by gold manufacturers would be held here on June 14 as part of the 'Jewellery Manufacturers' Sangamam.'     

 

Newly-elected MPs, P C Chacko (Thrissur), K P Dhanapalan (Chalakudy) and P K  Biju (Aalathur) would be honoured on the occasion, he said.
