A local court has dismissed a petition against BJP president L K Advani on treason charges for his remarks on Mohammed Ali Jinnah in Pakistan saying it was not within its jurisdiction to try the case.

However, the court yesterday directed police to probe the complaint under three other sections of IPC (relating to defamation) and submit a report on august 10, official sources said here today.

"Since it is not within the jurisdiction of the court to try the case of treason under section 124 of ipc against advani, the petition is not maintainable on that ground", the sources said adding that a sessions court was empowered to try a case under the relevant sections of IPC only.
