Government today said there was no shortage of cooking gas (LPG) in the country and that Indian Oil Corp was in the process of clearing about two lakh applications for new connections.
"There is sufficient stock of LPG and connections are being given. There is no holding back as far as supplies are concerned," Petroleum Secretary R S Pandey told reporters here.
He added that IOC was in the process of clearing the wait-list of about two lakh connections. The firm had a huge backlog because of shortage of LPG cylinders earlier.
In a meeting with the heads of oil PSUs last month, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora took the companies to task for reported shortages in fuel supplies in some parts of the country. He had asked them to clear the wait-list for new domestic cooking gas (LPG) connections in 60 days.
The Minister had reviewed the supply and distribution of essential petroleum products in the country at the meeting and issued instructions for ensuring adequate supplies in the coming festive season.
Pandey too had taken a tough stance with CEOs of oil firms who had gone slow on issuing new LPG connections and restricted auto fuel supplies in view of mounting losses.
