Press Trust Of India Bangalore
Chief minister N Dharam Singh on Wednesday categorically ruled out any postponement of zilla and taluk panchayat elections due in June.

"We have no plans to put off elections under any circumstance. Elections will be held as scheduled. It is for the state election commission to take steps for the conduct of the polls," he told reporters here.

Dismissing as media speculation the reports that the government was toying with the idea of postponing the politically sensitive zilla and taluk panchayat elections, held on political party symbols, singh said the state had already held gram panchayat polls.

He also scotched rumours that the government was thinking of amending the Panchayat Raj Act to put off the polls at least by six months.
