No Progress In Dpc-Govt Conciliation Process

The conciliation process between the Dabhol Power Company (DPC) and the Centre which was adjourned on August 19, is unlikely to make any headway.

Both the sides had agreed to hold the first round of the conciliation process from August 18 to August 20.

Finance ministry sources said that there was a remote possibility of the adjourned conciliation proceedings being resumed. They said, with the finalisation of the Godbole Committee report, the respective position of both DPC and MSEB had hardened.

In this context, the ministry is reconciled to the fact that the proceedings will now move to arbitration, said officials. They added that though no official move in that direction had been made, the fact that no new dates for the next round of the conciliation meeting had been proposed, was indicative of a deadlock.

DPC had served a notice of conciliation and a notice of arbitration to the Centre on April 4 for not honouring its counter-guarantee for MSEB
