There is no proposal to end the vendor system at railway stations even as some of them are being absorbed in the PSU behemoth progressively, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today said.

"Vendors who were engaged on commission basis in the erstwhile railway departmental catering units are being absorbed in the Railways progressively," she said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

Replying to a different question about the Ministry's policy relating to electrification of railways tracks, she said electrification of railway routes is decided based on operational requirement and financial viability.
