Union food and civil supplies minister Devendra Prasad Yadav yesterday said that the latest developments in the Congress would not pose any threat to the stability of the United Front (UF) government at the Centre.

Replying to questions by newspersons here, Yadav said that the Congress party, which is supporting the front government from outside, is a secular party and its commitment to secularism is unquestionable.

He said that the Congress party supported the Deve Gowda government only to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from coming to power. For Congress party, there is hardly any provocation to review its earlier decision to support the front government, Yadav said.

The minister also parried question relating to the proximity of the Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav and Congress president Sitaram Kesari.
