The opposition Congress has moved a no-confidence motion against the ruling BJP in the Gujarat assembly, for its failure to handle Surat floods'.

Introducing the motion, Leader of Opposition Arjun Modhvadia said the people's problems needed to be discussed and if possible it should be held today.

He said in reference to the Surat floods, "Whatever the good work the government had done and also all its shortcomings should be discussed in the House. The government should not be afraid of facing discussion on the topic".

Hearing this, Chief Minister Narendra Modi stood up and said that in the recent past the Opposition had gone to the people and they had got a fitting reply.

"Even the majority of Lok Sabha seats are with us (BJP)", Modi said and was supported by his MLAs with thumping of desks.

He said the Assembly should be run as per the rules.

The Speaker Mangaldas Patel admitted the no-confidence motion but did not allow any discussion on it.
