The Uttar Pradesh government has reiterated that it had not violated any order of the Supreme Court relating to the construction at 24 Dalit memorial sites in the state.

“There was no violation of the SC order directing the state government to stop construction work at all the sites mentioned in the writ petition,” UP State Advisory Council chairperson and ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said addressing the media here.

He maintained that construction work was on only at places which were not under the ambit of the writ being heard by the SC.

The apex court had started contempt proceedings against state chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta over the “flagrant violation” of its order stopping construction work at these places.

In his undertaking given to the court on September 8, the chief secretary had said the state would stop the construction.

However, on September 11, the apex court, on media reports that work continued at these sites, had banned such construction.
