Less than a week after the Allahabad High Court gave its verdict in the Noida land acquisition case, the local farmers are already divided on whether or not to move the Supreme Court against the order. Immediately after the verdict, most of the farmers claimed they were ready to challenge the HC verdict. However, now they are having second thoughts on that.
“Around 70 per cent of the village is planning to settle with the increased compensation (64.7 per cent more than the original compensation) and 10 per cent developed land,” said Balraj Yadav, a farmer leader from Patwari village.
Similarly, nearly 50 to 60 per cent of the population of Bisrakh village and Itari village, 70 per cent in Roza, 80 per cent in Amnabad and Chaganpur villages are content with the hiked compensation, that the Allahabad court ordered on October 21.
Most farmers have utilised the earlier compensation, so they are not in a position to return that amount. Yadav added, farmers would settle for additional compensation if the Greater Noida authorities gave a clear picture on the 10 per cent developed land verdict.
“The developed land should be divided into small plots of not more than 360 metre and not less than 120 metre, along with that we want 12 metre wide roads along the smaller plots and 18 metre wide roads along the bigger ones”, he said.
