Notification issued for Bengal municipal polls

Counting will be held on June 2

A formal notification was today issued for the May 30 elections to the 81 municipal bodies across West Bengal.

With the notification, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect and will remain in force till the end of the election process, Municipal Affairs Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said.

The last date of nominations is May 3, with scrutiny the next day and withdrawal of nominations on May 6, he said.

Counting would be held on June 2.

There would be 10,698 polling stations where 50,000 polling personnel would be deployed. There would be 123 observers, an official said. The state government has been asked to provide armed security personnel for all polling stations. Central forces have also been sought.

 

Altogether 499 wards have been reserved for women, 269 for Scheduled Castes and 60 for Scheduled Tribes.
