NREGA guidelines to be modified

The Union government will revise the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) guidelines soon. A decision to this effect was taken at the core committee meeting of the rural development ministry held recently in Bhubaneswar.

An official source said the proposed guidelines would make it mandatory to seek approval of the Gram Sabha or Palli Sabha before undertaking any work under the NREGA.

"However, the revision of the guidelines will be done in phases," the source added.
