One of the six 500MW units of the 3000 MW NTPC-Kaniha plant, which was shut down on Sunday will be restored by Tuesday evening, according to a top company official.

The unit which had developed a technical snag in its boiler is being attended by engineers round the clock to resume the generation as quickly as possible, he added.

NTPC Kaniha, the second largest power plant in the country, was currently generating power at a plant load factor (PLF) of 90 per cent instead of 100 per cent PLF due to shortage of coal stock.

The power station is reeling under an acute shortage of coal stock for several months. The plant had only 23,000 tonnes of coal stock instead of the 7.5 lakh tonnes as per the guidelines of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

It may be noted that Orissa received 600 MW of power from the NTPC Kaniha plant as per its allocated share.
