In a bid to upgrade the transmission network in the state, the Odisha government will invest Rs 1,650 crore on setting up 550 new 33/11 KV sub-stations in the state.
The new sub-stations which will be over and above the existing 550 sub-stations, are expected to be commissioned within two years. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held on Friday chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Patnaik also reviewed the status of Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY). Out of 19,856 villages meant to be covered under the programme, electricity has been made available to 13,456 villages. The balance villages are scheduled to be covered by March 2013.
RGGVY work is being implemented in the state by three Central PSUs - National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) is the nodal agency for implementing the Central programme. Under the programme, 90 per cent grant is provided by Government of India.
