Oil prices firmer in Asian trade

Oil prices firmed in Asian trade today as a blast of winter weather in the United States helped support a market struggling at 19-month lows.

At 0857 hrs, New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in February, was up 36 cents at $52.60 a barrel from late US trades yesterday.
