India and South Africa will explore avenues for cooperation in the petroleum sector.

In a meeting with Central Energy Fund, a South African government body for the petroleum sector, the Indian delegation has identified upstream, gas to liquid, biodiesel and LPG bottling as the areas of cooperation between the two countries.

While India sought to join hands for gas to liquid technologies, it's South African counterpart wanted collaboration in biodiesel. India also seeks to initiate upstream projects in South Africa and to tie up with Petro SA for pursuing projects in other countries.

ONGC Videsh will work on a joint approach in the exploration business while Indian Oil Corporation will collaborate on biodiesel and LPG bottling facilities.
