The post-graduate students of Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC), Pune, will organise a seminar to explore various aspects of television soaps and provide a platform to aspiring media professionals.

A one-day media seminar 'Footprints' is a part of nationwide series of media seminars organised by the students of SIMC every year.

This year the seminar is tracking the evolution of the television medium and following the trends in Indian television media.

'Kahaani Small Screen Kii', the Ahmedabad chapter of Footprints, will be held at IIM-Ahmedabad Campus on November 10, 2004.

SIMC aims to bring together the most sought-after media professionals in the country and students aspiring for a career in mass media & allied fields through 'Footprints'.

"The audience may complain about the bizarre and unrealistic storylines of soaps, but their addiction to the soaps keeps them glued to their TV sets and the themes have an indelible influence on them. Thus this topic has tremendous scope to hold the audiences' attention, and will prove to be a great value addition to their existing knowledge quotient," said Mahavir Rawat, student and project co-ordinator.

So far SIMC has conducts about 50 such seminars over the last five years to provide platform for aspiring media professionals to explore the opportunities in the fields of journalism, audio visual production, advertising and public relations.

Media personalities like Poornima Advani, chairperson, National Commission for Women, A F Mathew Faculty, Mudra Institute of Communication will share their knowledge and experience with participants.

The day will also see Keval Kumar, a renowned author of 'Mass Communication in India' and the current director of SIMC.

Kumar will talk to young students about careers and opportunity in mass communication in the country.
