As the deadline (April 2008) for opening the new Bangalore international airport at Devanahalli draws closer, only 15% of the work is pending. According to a release issued by Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) , in addition to the main runway, the taxiway is now ready for trial use.

As for the airside works, installation of PAPI (Precession Approach Path Indicator) lights at both ends of the runway is complete. Work at the isolation bay is continuing and the concreting is entirely complete. Air Field Lighting (AFL) cabling works along the taxiway are nearing completion and the installation of taxiway lights is now in progress.

Work at the terminal building is on as civil and finishing works are in progress. Key works at the terminal building are complete, but works inside the building like the duty free, arrival and departure areas are in progress.

The civil work on the ATC is over. The car park area in front of the terminal building is also nearing completion.  The landscaping works within this area has commenced.

While private promoters (Siemens, L&T and Zurich Airport) hold 74% stake in BIAL, the Karnataka government holds 13% and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) holds the remaining 13%.
