In a concerted move, the Opposition parties led by the Congress tried to pin down the government on the Ayodhya issue in Parliament but later made a tactical retreat by deciding to take up the issue for discussion on February 26, after the Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
That the Opposition is not keen to push the Ayodhya issue aggressively became clear in the business advisory committee, when Opposition leaders gave up their insistence on holding discussion under Rule 184, which entails voting in the Lok Sabha in order to frustrate the BJP
