Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told the Supreme Court that Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran would soon be questioned in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, the Opposition began baying for his blood.

The Congress said it was a matter between CBI and the Supreme Court and the party had no view on it.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, in Delhi for a meeting with the Planning Commission, demanded his ouster from the Cabinet.

BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said: “Maran’s resignation must happen. His position has become untenable.”

CPI leader D Raja also said that after coming under CBI’s scanner, Maran’s “position has become untenable. He has to step down, or the prime minister would be held responsible for keeping him in the Union council of ministers even after CBI’s statement.”

Jayalalithaa went a step ahead, saying Maran should be sacked, as there was no expectation of his resigning.
