Orissa government plans to set up ‘Transit homes’ in various locations to facilitate education of identified child labour. These transit homes are proposed to come up in special schools run under the National Child Labour Project and other institutions. The government also contemplates to make arrangements for such students in the residential schools.
This is expected to remove the obstacles coming on the way of providing education to the child labour released from their engagements, sources said. At present, the released child labour pursuing studies are being taught the abridged version of 5 year course in 3 years time by experienced teachers in general schools and the government has covered 97,129 child labour for imparting higher education so far.
