Orissa to spend Rs 2200 cr under PMGSY in 2010-11

The Orissa government has targeted to spend Rs 2200 crore and achieve a road network of 4500 km in 30 districts of the state in this fiscal under the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) of the Government of India.

The government has so far achieved a road network of 1027.52 km in the first two months of the current financial year (April and May 2010) at an expenditure of Rs 332.71 crore, the state minister for rural development, Bikram Keshari Arukh said in the state assembly.

As per the targeted plan, the highest road network of 453.78 km under PMGSY will be taken up in Nabarangpur district, followed by Keonjhar district (304.48 km), Balasore district (276.73 km), Korpaut (248.13 km), Mayurbhanj (238.56 km) and Bhadrak (234.75 km).

 

The highest amount in this fiscal under the PMGSY has been targeted to be spent in Keonjhar (Rs 161.70 crore) followed by Balasore (Rs 160.36 crore), Mayurbhanj (Rs 160.15 crore) and Nabarangpur (Rs 158.58 crore).

In the April-May period of this fiscal, the state government has succeeded in laying 84.52 km road network in Bargarh district, 75.20 km in Mayurbhanj district, 73.35 km in Sonepur district, 68.47 km in Bolangir district, 63.22 km in Kalahandi district and 61.56 km in Sambalpur district.

The state government has spent Rs 24.37 crore, Rs 23.71 crore and Rs 22.09 crore in the said period under PMGSY in the districts of Balsore, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak respectively. The districts which have been laggards so far in the said period in the implementation of the programme are Gajapati, Malkangiri and Phulbani where length of road laid stands at 0.92 km, 2.30 km and 1.71 klm respectively.

“The state government has spent Rs 3058.26 crore under PMGSY in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and has laid a road network of 6479.42 km in these two years”, the minister informed.

Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi and Bargarh have emerged as the top three districts in the implementation of PMGSY in the state in 2008-09 and 2009-10 with an achievement of road network of 435.16 km, 421.73 km and 420.32 km respectively.

The maximum amount under PMGSY in the last two financial years has been spent in Balasore district (Rs 217.61 crore) followed by Puri (Rs 208.09 crore) and Mayurbhanj (Rs 195.66 crore).
