The Outcome Budget, aimed at gauging the effectiveness of money spent on various heads by different ministries, will be unveiled next week after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returns from his visit to the United
Kingdom. This was announced by finance minister P Chidambaram today.

The Outcome Budget was earlier scheduled to be unveiled in the first week of this month.

Singh is scheduled to come back on July 9 after attending the G-8 summit being held in Scotland.

The Outcome Budget, to be presented for the first time, will discipline various ministries in their spending by ensuring that they do not stagger it towards the last quarter of the fiscal.

Chidambaram had said earlier that the government has set strict rules stipulating 66% of the budgeted expenditure to be spent in the first three quarters and not more than 33% in the last quarter.
