Sao Paulo may have a display centre-cum-warehouse for products from UP.
Uttar Pradesh Industrial Consultants Ltd (UPICO), a premier government consultancy organisation, has plans to set it up to boost exports from the state. It is chiefly to meet the needs of exporters, particularly the small ones, who are unable to get exposure to international markets.
Potential areas in Brazil include handicrafts, textiles, readymade garments, auto parts, agro chemicals, electronics, etc.
“This will generate business,” said P K Srivastava, general manager, UPICO, Kanpur.
UPICO has been organising international trade fairs and buyer-seller meets for the past five years. So far it has held 20 fairs in various countries, including three in Brazil, to promote India abroad.
According to the data given by UPICO, the trade between Brazil and India reached $2.4 billion during 2006. During this period, India’s exports to Brazil were all time record at US dollar 1. 47 billion and Brazil’s exports to India were $937 million.

“It has also been observed that importers do not entertain new exporters from India because of credibility problem. Through this medium the member- exporters would be able to establish their credibility because the officials deputed by the government shall speak on their counterparts in Brazil,” Srivastava said.
The organisation will suggest measures for improvements in the quality of products as per the feedback received at the display centre and disseminate information about the business scenario and overall market trends.
