Gujarat government has so far allotted more than 4,830 hectares of land to Reliance, Tata and Adani Group for various industrial purposes over the period of last three years. The state government has raked in revenue to the tune of Rs 377.97 crore by providing land to these big industrial houses.

In a written reply to Kalupur MLA Mohammed Farooq Shaikh's question, Anandiben Patel, revenue minister, Gujarat government, today informed the state assembly that Reliance had been allotted 1,333 hectares of land for its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Jamnagar in addition to 57 hectares for marine tank farm and 1225 sq metres for refinery related works.

As per the data placed in the assembly, Tata Group has been provided 1,476 hectares of land, which includes 1,031 hectares for its information technology (IT) project in Gandhinagar and 445 hectares for much-hyped Nano car project in Ahmedabad. Adani Group has been allotted 1,964 hectares of land for SEZ project in Kutch. "The Gujarat government has earned over Rs 377.99 crore revenues by way of land allotment to these industrial giants," the minister stated.

To another question raised by Amarsinh Vasava, an MLA from Dediapada constituency, Anandiben Patel revealed that the state government had acquired 2,517 hectares for state-run company GIPL in Surat and Bharuch districts of the state. The land was bought for Rs 1.70 to 15 lakh per hectare.

Participating in a discussion during the question hour, Vasava further argued that farmers in Bharuch were complaining that they were paid lesser amount for the land. To which, revenue minister replied that 503 hectares were bought in Bharuch for Rs 29 crore and no complaint regarding lower price were received from the farmers in that region.

"The state government has acquired 1,490 hectare of land with farmers consent and 524 hectares under regular award method," she contended.
