In what could come as a good news to job aspirants, the Labour Bureau has said overall employment in the country has increased by about 500,000 jobs between July and September this year, thanks to the stimulus packages announced by the government.
The bureau, in its latest quarterly survey for the period July-September, said the stimulus packages that increased liquidity in the economy and consequently gave a boost to production and consumption helped in creating job opportunities.
The survey, which was the fourth in a row, covered 2,873 units from sectors such as textiles, leather, metal, automobiles, gems and jewellery to transport, IT/BPO and handloom and powerloom in 11 states.
The first survey was carried out for the period between October to December immediately after the onset of the global recession, which revealed losses of 500,000 jobs during that period.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Harish Rawat said all the surveys so far indicated that between October 2008 and September 2009, “there has been a net addition of 151,000 jobs in selected sectors.”
Rawat said while employment declined by 491,000 during the October-December quarter, it increased by 276,000 during January-March quarter and again declined by 131,000 in the April-June quarter.
“During the fourth quarter between July and September, the employment increased by 497,000,” he said.
The outcome of the survey report reflects the positive vibes ruling B-schools and technical institutes which recorded good placements this year.
Rawat said issues like employment generation and skill development would also be discussed in the next session of the Indian Labour conference along with topics like job losses arising from the global financial downturn.
