Panel Set Up For Navi Mumbai Economic Zone

The Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday decided to set up an expert s committee under chief secretary V Ranganathan to facilitate the phase-by-phase development of the special economic zone (SEZ) at Navi Mumbai and select a strategic partner for the same.

The partner company, in which the government will hold an equity share of 49 per cent, will be concerned with raising share capital and marketing the land.

Tenders will be invited for selecting the partner, failing which, a memorandum of understanding would be inked by mutual consent with an agreeable company.

ICICI, HDFC, and the Housing and Urban Development Corporation, as well as the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry have evinced an active interest in the development of the SEZ.
