The Parivar has decided to find ways to mobilise Hindus on such issues in future.

The VHP, which is the frontal religious organisation of the Sangh Parivar, feels that, if people do not react on such issues, the pseudo-secularists would continue their attacks on the Hindu culture and tradition.

Baffled by the large-scale media support for Husains right to expression through painting in any manner, the Parivar has concluded that steps must be taken to make Hindus intolerant of such artistic expression, which plays havoc with the Hindu religious sentiments, according to a senior VHP office-bearer.

The VHP has included the painting issue in its agenda for the dharam sansad conference to be held on Novemeber 16 and 17. The conference is to discuss ways to make Hindus realise the harm done to them as a result of their tolerant attitude, a VHP office-bearer said.

A senior VHP leader ruled out the possiblity of the organisation being cornered as a result of the BJP refusing to make Husains painting an issue and said that the Viswa Hindu Parishad and other religious organisations of the Parivar had the support of the RSS.

The BJPs stand on the issue was more because of its political compulsion, he pointed out.

The conference, to be attended by about 10,000 sadhus, is likely to formulate a strategy to facilitate construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya and for launching a movement to oppose reservation in jobs for Dalit Christians.

VHP leaders admit privately that the organisation is in a tight situation in the absence of volunteers who could organise such mass movements.

The recruitment of new members would form a part of the conferences agenda.
