Patna-based Laison Office Industries Ltd has developed a windmill model to meet the energy requirements of large households.
The product is being registered under the Indian Patent Rights Act.
Laison Office managing director Ajay Kumar claims the wind mill model is superior to the conventional solar module used for small households.
The Laison model can support a wide range of domestic electric appliances, including personal computers, Kumar told a press conference.
The device can generate 1kw of electricity and support gadgets operating on 220 to 440 volts. It is also compatible to electric invertors.
The model, named LOIL, has been installed at four places in Bihar. Kumar is of the view that the present subsidy scheme of the government to promote use of renewable energy is not serving its purpose.
He says it would be better if the government purchases the appliances directly from the producers and sells them in the open market at subsidised prices.
In this regard, Jayant P Shidhaye, director, Renewable Energy Systems Ltd ( RES), Hyderabad, which is the largest manufacturer of photovoltaic systems in the country, says the government should encourage research and development in the field through more grants.
RES has a wide range of photovoltaic products covering perimeter lighting, street lighting, remote area lighting, railway station lighting, solar lanterns, traffic lights, lighting devices for security systems, highway traffic signs, glow signs, micro power plants for village lighting and systems for grid connections. The company plans to diversify into specialised batteries, which would be in addition to the thermal batteries it supplies to the defence services for production of missiles.
