Permanent exhibition centres for handicrafts

| The Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (THDCL), popularly known, as Poompuhar would be establishing permanent exhibition centres at Mahabalipuram near Chennai and at Kanyakumari. |
| S Vargeese, Sales Manager of the corporation mentioned that this was under the Government of India scheme, "Urban HAAT" where artisans can work, display their products and sell them directly to the consumers. |
| Each of the centres would hold an outlay of Rs two crores to which Government of India, Development Commissioner, Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles would contribute Rs 1.4 crore and the balance by Tamilnadu Government besides the land is provided by the local government. |
