The piped compressed natural gas (CNG) supply would be brought to the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad by December 2010 under Phase I, said Madhusudan Rao, member secretary, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.
The first phase would be completed in three years with an investment of Rs 200 crore. It would cover over 50 industries in Medchal and Jeedimetla, 266,000 households and commercial establishments in Hyderabad, said AR Datla, head (business and marketing), Bhagyanagar Gas Limited.
“Currently, we have only four CNG stations covering 3,000-3,200 vehicles, including 2,800 autos and the rest taxis and mini buses. They provide 3,000 kg gas per station, per day, which comes from Vijayawada by road. As the pipeline progresses, the projected 50 stations under the first phase would provide 15,000 kg per day per station,” he added.
Three RTC depots would get exclusive CNG filing stations in the next five to six months, from the present 22 and the 8 yet-to-come-up depots, CA Rashid managing director, Bhagyanagar Gas, told Business Standard on the sidelines of a seminar here. One bus depots would cover 130 buses on an average.
The project, which was supposed to be operational from September, got delayed due to a technical problem and unavailability of the required equipment. “The pressure is around 90 kg in the Reliance pipeline, and they have to give us at 40 kg. The pressure reduction has to take place and that’s why it’s taking time,” he said.
The company is meeting Reliance officials on Monday to finalise things. From the Shameerpet mother station here, the connections would be provided to the city by Reliance and Bhagyanagar Gas Limited.
