Unidentified persons desecrated a church in Anekal taluk in Bangalore on Monday, the police said.

They damaged the statues outside the church and broke the window panes of the church. “The incident occurred in the wee hours. The miscreants broke the window panes of the SFS church, the the police said.

Home minister V S Acharya described it as a “minor incident” and said the case would be investigated. Similar incidents of attacks on churches had occurred in the state last year.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress in Karnataka today condemned the attack and demanded that the BJP government bring to book the culprits and instill confidence among minorities. “People belonging to minorities and weaker sections are in the grip of fear in the state after the BJP government came to power,” KPCC president R V Deshpande and working president D K Shivakumar told reporters.

They demanded that chief minister B S Yeddyurappa take steps to instill confidence among minorities and weaker sections, identify the culprits responsible for the attack and punish them. Deshpande urged the government to order a Corps of Detectives probe into the incident.
