Plan for 14 road projects worth Rs 9,127 cr

Union ministry for road transport and highways has planned to take up 14 new road projects covering a length of 1,562 kms for an investment of Rs 9,127 crore in Karnataka, Kamal Nath, Union minister for road transport and highways, said here.

Presently, 14 works for a road length of 761.4 km valued at Rs 6,163 crore were in progress in the state, he said. Addressing captains of industry at an event organised by the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce, here on Friday, Kamal Nath said eight projects have been envisaged on NH 13, 206 and 234 with a tentative investment of Rs 1,905 crore which includes assistance from the World Bank.

 

As on April 1, 2009, 153 projects were in progress, of which 43 works amounting to Rs 124.53 crore have been completed till December 31, 2009. This fiscal, 17 works costing Rs 139.33 crore have been sanctioned for Karnataka. There are 127 ongoing projects worth Rs 899.52 crore at the time of completion.

Since inception in 2000-01, 1,315 projects amounting to Rs 1,304.23 crore have been sanctioned. Till December 31, 2009, 1,021 projects worth Rs 819.06 crore have been completed. The funds released so far total Rs 790.97 crore including the release of Rs 120.60 crore during 2009-10, he said.

Presently, 294 projects costing Rs 485.17 crore were in their different stages of implementation, he added. Kamal Nath said his ministry was conducting the detailed project report for the proposed development of southern freight corridor connecting Bangalore and Chennai.

The report would be ready in the next few months and the project will be taken during the next fiscal, he said.
