Plan to tackle sea erosion

The work on a break water wall of 50 km to check sea erosion in Ullal and other affected areas of coastal Karnataka will begin in January 2008, according to district-in"�charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.
 
A Rs 29-crore proposal was ready for this and it is to be funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
 
Union minister of state for shipping, road transport and highways K H Muniyappa agreed in-principle to sanction Rs 32 crore for road maintenance at the Shiradi Ghat. Two tenders had already been considered by the state in this regard.
 
An amount of Rs 5 crore had already been released for the emergency maintenance work at Shiradi Ghat. The emergency maintenance works, from Gundya to Sakhaleshpur is set to start in September.
