Plymouth university to partner Indian institutions

The UK based Plymouth University has evinced interest to partner Indian university’s and invest in India to set up research centres.

“Now it is time to study in India and invest in India. This century will be shaped by India,” said Bill Rammell, deputy vice-chancellor of Plymouth University.

Rammell said that India lacked research facilities, and Plymouth being a leading university in research activities, would look forward to partner Indian varsities to set up research centres.

He claimed that Plymouth University had expertise in areas like marine engineering, robotics, computing and environmental sciences. The university also houses Europe's largest marine institute, he added.

 

The Plymouth University, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, had already entered into collaboration with Chennai University and Noida based Indian Maritime Institution.

Today, it also signed a memorandum-of-understanding (MoU) with a private university of Assam – the Kaziranga University, to “share learning resources and faculty resources.” Promoted by North Eastern Knowledge foundation, a joint initiative of Assam based North Eastern Cables Pvt Ltd Kolkata based and Laser Cables Pvt Ltd; Kaziranga University, which has been established under the Assam Private University Act 2007, will start its first academic session from July 2012.

“Kaziranga University aspires to become a centre of excellence for teaching and research in fields like engineering, management, health sciences, agriculture and allied subjects,” said Sukhendu Samajdar, pro-vice chancellor of Kaziranga University. It is located in Jorhat, in Upper Assam.

As per statistics, around 17 per cent of total 12.5 million students in Assam opt for professional courses.
