Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday condoled the death of K N Raj and said the renowned economist was a “moving force behind the setting up” of the prestigious Delhi School of Economics.
“At a young age of 27, he was invited by the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru to help draft India’s first Five-Year Plan,” Singh said describing him as a “very close friend and a great economist”.
Raj’s contributions to the science of economics as a teacher, a researcher and an institution-builder were immense, he said in a condolence to the late economist’s son Gopal Raj.
